You will be required to have a Police Clearance done to your vehicle for the following reasons:

  • Motor vehicle built up from parts (Reg 9(c))
  • Vehicle acquired outside the boarders of the Republic (Reg 12(c))
  • Format of Chassis number incorrect/Chassis number is lacking (Reg 56(2)(a))
  • Duplicate Chassis number/Engine number (Reg 56(3)(d))
  • Chassis/Engine number altered, defaced or obliterated (Reg 56(3)(e))
  • Transfer of ownership (Registration certificate lost/owner or title holder not traceable) (Reg 8(2)(d)(ii)+(iii))
  • Motor vehicle referred during road-worthiness examination (Reg 141(3)(a))
  • Condition of registration of vehicle by MIB/Registration of vehicle of MIB exempted from registration (Reg 41(b)(i), 43(3))
  • Motor vehicle previously reported as stolen (Reg 54(6)(c))
  • Motor vehicle altered or re-constructed (including replacement of engine) (Reg 31(2)(c))
  • Export of motor vehicle (Police clearance required by other countries)
  • Required by MEC for purpose of registration (e.g. TBVC motor vehicles not in eNatis, motor vehicle archived)(Reg 8(2)(j)(iv))
  • Registration of deregistered motor vehicle (Reg 9A)

The Police Clearance Process:

Documentation to take with:

  • Your ID
  • Vehicle Registration Document
  • Proof of address
  • Any other documents e.g. proof of engine purchased if applicable
  • Letter of permission and certified copy of ID from owner if applicable

 

Local Registration Office

  • Obtain a Police Clearance document
  • Complete the document and hand in for processing
  • Receive your RPC document

 

idDots approved Fitment Centre

  • Present the vehicle and documentation to the assistant at the centre
  • Vehicle will be verified for previously fitted microdots and if need be, be fitted
  • The fitment centre will provide you with a Microdot Certificate

 

Police Clearance Office

  • Present vehicle and all documentation
  • Present idDots Microdot Certificate of fitment
  • Wait for the officer to proceed with the clearance process
  • Receive completed Clearance (RPC) documentation

 

Local Registration Office

  • Present completed RPC and Registration documents
  • Wait for the clearance status to be updated
