SAPS Notice to inspect Used Dealership registers

SAPS have instructed their members to perform inspections at used motor dealers and confirm compliance with the requirements Section 24 of the Second-Hand Goods Act, 2009 (Act NO.6 of 2009), Section 24(2)(d) of aforesaid act prescribes that "any distinguishing mark or feature, such as microdot particulars" must be recorded in a prescribed register.

A person who fails to comply with the recording of microdot information in the prescribed register at a second-hand motor vehicle dealer, is according to section 32(1)(n) of the Second-Hand Goods Act, 2009 (Act NO. 6 of 2009), guilty of an offence and upon conviction of the aforesaid charge, the court may order that the subject of the charge against the person, be forfeited to the state (Regulation 32(3)(d) of the aforesaid act.)
